Meet Dr. Judith Okun

Judith A. Okun, DMD

As a third-generation New York dentist, I grew up seeing the impact good oral health and a straight smile can have on a person's life. I have been creating beautiful, functional smiles for adults and children for more than 20 years, and I truly love what I do. I take pride in the fact that many of my patients refer their friends and family, and that I often treat multiple generations in the same family. My patients love my personal touch and attention to detail.

When I straighten the teeth and I eliminate jaw joint and facial pain, I create more than just beautiful smiles. I look forward to meeting you here, in my office in Rye Brook, NY, so we can discuss how I can create beautiful smiles for you and your family.

Education and experience

Born and raised in the Town of Rye, before it incorporated as Rye Brook, I attended Ridge Street Elementary School and Blind Brook High School. I received my Bachelor's degree at Brandeis University, and completed my Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Pennsylvania.

In order to become a specialist in orthodontics, I received advanced training from Columbia University where I earned a Certificate in Orthodontics. Prior to specializing as an orthodontist, I did a General Practice Residency at the Dental Care Center of the University of Pennsylvania, and completed my externship training at the Graduate Hospital and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

In 1991, I was proud to be the co-winner alongside my father, Dr. Stanley Okun, of the Joseph E. Johnson Table Clinic Award for our work on dentofacial orthopedics.

As a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and founder of the Hutchinson Study Group, I continually update my knowledge by attending numerous lectures and courses. I am also an active member of the following dental organizations and serve on several committees within the Ninth District Dental Society:

  • American Association of Orthodontists
  • American Dental Association
  • Alpha Omega Dental Fraternity
  • Ninth District Dental Association
  • Westchester Shore Dental Forum
  • Northeastern Society of Orthodontists
  • New York State Society of Orthodontists
  • Orthodontic Alumni Society of Columbia University

Community involvement

I am active in my community as a volunteer for Bikur Cholim of Rockland County, a charity organization that provides housing and meals to families of patients at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. This is a similar service to that provided by the Ronald McDonald House Charities. I am also active in my synagogue, the Young Israel of White Plains, and a member of the Young Israel Security Committee.

Outside the office

My time outside the office is devoted to my family and my faith. I regularly take religious education courses in character development and religious observance through the Young Israel of White Plains, Amit, and the Jewish Renaissance Experience. I love being a parent and have shared my parenting experiences with my patients as much as I have learned from my patients how to be a better parent. I enjoy watching Netflix with my family and reading "what my kids read" so that I can talk to them about what interests them, preparing for religious holidays and sharing Sabbath meals with members of my community.
