Office Visits

Your First Visit

Your first visit to our office enables us to become acquainted with each other and experience our warm family atmosphere. It is also the time that Doctor Okun will look at your face and teeth to evaluate your orthodontic or TMJ needs and options, and design a preliminary treatment plan. We usually can determine the cost of your treatment at this first visit. Your custom treatment plan will be finalized at the records appointment when additional information from your x-rays is available. These records (x-rays, models of your teeth and photos of your face and teeth) are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move during orthodontic treatment. During the second half of your records appointment, your treatment plan and our office policies will be reviewed with you in great detail.

Patient Forms

Please help us be prepared for your first appointment by completing this Patient Information and Medical History form.

Download the form below (in either Word or PDF format) to your computer, print it out, complete the form, and bring it with you to your first appointment.

Regular appointments

The appointment for placement of your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes approximately one to two hours. Sometimes it is divided over several visits which are one to two weeks apart. You'll then see us at regular intervals three to eight weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes ten to forty minutes. Patients are seen by appointment only. We make every effort to be on time for our patients, and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. Cancel only if it is an emergency. It is difficult to reschedule appointments the same week since most appointments are made three to eight weeks in advance.

Emergency care

We recognize that emergency situations do arise and will do our best to respond promptly. If no one is available to take your call please leave a message on the answering machine. We usually respond in less than 24 hours, and can often provide emergency care on a same day basis. You can also view the “Emergency Care” and “Life with Braces” sections of this web site to get hints on handling emergencies at home.
